Increased Testing Capacity: Adamawa Gets COVID-19 Testing Laboratory


This follows announcement by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control that Federal Medical Centre, Yola, now houses its 25th COVID-19 laboratory.

This follows announcement by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control that Federal Medical Centre, Yola, now houses its 25th COVID-19 laboratory.

The agency further said that it was still working on establishing others in Katsina, Kwara, Anambra and Gombe states. 

“We are pleased to announce the inclusion of the 25th lab to the national #COVID19 laboratory network: Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Adamawa.

“In progress: Katsina, Kwara, Anambra and Gombe,” the NCDC said.

IPPIS: FG Directs ASSU To Suspend The Ongoing Strike Immediately.

THE Federal Government, yesterday, called on the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to suspend the strike and return to the classroom to manufacture drugs for the cure of the COVID-19 pandemic. It pointedly told the union to suspend the industrial action, began in March despite universities being under closure as part of plans to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, before the resumption of negotiations. ASUU, - IPPIS  Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, told newsmen at the weekend that the federal government has demonstrated enough goodwill by paying salaries of the striking lecturers, urging them to discontinue their strike to allow for peaceful negotiations of their dispute. “It is immoral and despicable for those who should be conducting research as Nigerians for the discovery of new drugs and medical equipment that will be used during COVID-19 period to say that they are at home playing Ludo and Draft and other games,” he said. Governor Seyi Makinde has further eased restrictions that had earlier been implemented in Oyo State to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, chaired by the governor, announced on Monday, June 15, 2020 that critical classes for Primary Six, JSS 3 and SS 3 students can resume on June 29. The schools have been directed to observe COVID-19 protocols, and ensure that stations for washing of hands are provided for students. All students are also required to compulsorily wear face masks, another safety measure to combat the spread of the disease. The resumption, according to the government, is to ensure the students are well-prepared for the public examinations ahead of them.
