BREAKING : Buhari cancels Nationwide broadcast on COVID-19



The Presidency has said that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd.), will not make any broadcast on COVID -19 updates today.
Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made this known on Monday afternoon via his official Twitter handle.



He wrote : No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual  media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, has justified the demand for payment for feeding and accommodation at isolation centres from prospective evacuees before they could be qualified for flights that would bring them to Nigeria. A memo addressed to prospective evacuees “Need to pay for Quarantine, Isolation, accommodation centre or hotels before Departure and Arrival in Nigeria,” dated May 14, 2020 asked them to pay the total sum of N297,600 before they could be airlifted. The memo gave the breakdown of the cost as N240,000 and N57,000 for accommodation and feeding respectively for the 14-day mandatory isolation as prescribed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. IPPIS: FG Directs ASSU To Suspend The Ongoing Strike Immediately.

THE Federal Government, yesterday, called on the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to suspend the strike and return to the classroom to manufacture drugs for the cure of the COVID-19 pandemic. It pointedly told the union to suspend the industrial action, began in March despite universities being under closure as part of plans to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, before the resumption of negotiations. ASUU, - IPPIS  Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, told newsmen at the weekend that the federal government has demonstrated enough goodwill by paying salaries of the striking lecturers, urging them to discontinue their strike to allow for peaceful negotiations of their dispute. “It is immoral and despicable for those who should be conducting research as Nigerians for the discovery of new drugs and medical equipment that will be used during COVID-19 period to say that they are at home playing Ludo and Draft and other games,” he said. JUST IN : Makinde Reopens Schools, Churches, Mosques in Oyo

Governor Seyi Makinde has further eased restrictions that had earlier been implemented in Oyo State to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, chaired by the governor, announced on Monday, June 15, 2020 that critical classes for Primary Six, JSS 3 and SS 3 students can resume on June 29. The schools have been directed to observe COVID-19 protocols, and ensure that stations for washing of hands are provided for students. All students are also required to compulsorily wear face masks, another safety measure to combat the spread of the disease. The resumption, according to the government, is to ensure the students are well-prepared for the public examinations ahead of them.
