The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, on Thursday said COVID-19 patients, who spent a long period at isolation centres were at the risk of depression. Ehanire, who stated this in Abuja at the press conference of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, said government planned to deploy psychologists in isolation centres to take care of such patients. At the press conference, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the task force was reluctant to adopt home treatment it once proposed because of conditions under which Nigerians live. He also asked professional groups and faith-based organisations, including churches and mosques, to submit guidelines for reopening to the NCDC to review and advise. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed it is considering Madagascar’s COVID Organics for a clinical observation process. This was made known by the President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina in a tweet on Wednesday. The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has said it would call off its industrial action if progress is made on key areas, including revitalisation fund, lecturers-earned allowances and funding of state universities. This is coming as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) yesterday threatened to begin strike in all federal universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education when schools resume if nothing was done to address its grievances. Mr James Kolo, the Kwara Commissioner-designate in the Federal Character Commission (FCC) who recently appeared before the Senate is dead. He is from Patigi local government area in Kwara State. At at the time of filing this report, cause of his death is still unknown but close associates said it was after being sick for a while. His corpse has been deposited at the University Of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Morgue.

The P res idency has said that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd.), will not make any broadcast on COVID -19 updates today. Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made this known on Monday afternoon via his official Twitter handle. He wrote : No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual  media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps.

THE Federal Government, yesterday, called on the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to suspend the strike and return to the classroom to manufacture drugs for the cure of the COVID-19 pandemic. It pointedly told the union to suspend the industrial action, began in March despite universities being under closure as part of plans to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, before the resumption of negotiations. Buhari is expected to speak about ongoing efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria and to decide on whether or not the country should go ahead with the second phase of the easing of the lockdown.  President Muhammadu Buhari will address Nigerians on Monday. No NYSC Mobilisation Soon, Says Director-General, Shuaibu Shuaibu in an interview with Economic Confidential said only Batch A, Stream 1, who were asked to leave camp due to COVID-19 would be asked to complete orientation.
